On this page, I am going to give examples of Operating System (OS). I will be showing you a number of examples. E.g. Windows 95, Windows 98 etc. I will now go through most of the Operating Systems.
Windows 3.1x
This is othe first Graphical User Interface (GUI) Operating System to come out. It was released on March 18th, 1992 in America and also worldwide at a later date. Several editions of this Operating System have been released between 1992 - 1994. Windows 3.1x had a very basic interface. It was designed to have a large degree of backward compatibility. Version 3.1 had File Manager and Program Manager, 'Windows 3.1' and later versions all support 32-bit disk access, which cant's run in real mode, but do include Minesweeper and Reversi. Microsoft also sold special versions of this OS, they came in different languages E.g. Japanese, Polish etc.This was very successful and in Japan they sold 1.46 million copies in it's first year (1993).
Windows 3.11
Microsoft created an update for 'Windows 3.1' which changes the way the Windows version displayed the "About" dialog boxes. This means that 'Windows 3.11' isn't a standalone version, but rather a software update from '3.1'. For those who didn't own Version 3.1, there full desk sets of 'Windows 3.11' available at the time.
Windows 95
Windows 95 is a consumer oriented graphical user interface. It was released on August 24th, 1995 and was a significant progression from the company's previous Windows products. During it's development, it was more commonly known as 'Windows 4.0'. Windows 95 was released with great fanfare, including a commercial by 'The Rolling Stones'. It has been widely reported that Microsoft paid 'The Rolling Stones' between $8 and $14 million for the use of the song that they performed in the advertising campaign.
Windows 98
Windows brought out the 98 vesion on June 25th, 1998 as the successor to Windows 95. There were alot of updates from the 95 version to the 98 version. The most significant changes that this version comes installed with Internet Explorer Number 4. The previous versions of Widows did not come with Internet Explorer installed.
Windows 2000
Windows 2000, also know as 'Win2k' is an interuptable, graphical and business-oriented operating system which is designed to work on either uniprocessor or symetric mutli-processor computers. It was released world wide on February 17th 2000. Windows 2000 is classed as a hybrid kernel operating sytsem.
Windows XP
Windows XP is for use on general purpose computer systems, which includes home and business computers, notebook computers and media centers. The XP stands for experience. Windows XP was first released on Ocotber 25th 2001, and over 400 million copies were in use in January 2006.
Windows Vista
Windows Vist ais the latest Operating System designed by Microsoft. Windows Vista is a line of graphical operating systems used on personal computers, including home and business computers, laptops, tablet PC's and media centers. Vista was released worldwide and to the general public on January 30th, 2007. The release of Vista comes more than 5 years after XP was released, this makes it the longest time span between two releases of Microsoft.
